STOL-Grasshoppers
DS1 lose again to Probuild Lions
Last Saturday, the ladies from STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 got a visit from
Probuild Lions. The team from Landsmeer treated
STOL-Grasshoppers (after 5 wins in a row) to a big loss.
Both teams started the match with a 3-pointer, but then had trouble
finding the net (5-5 after 6 minutes). Probuild played a zone defense with a
lot of pressure on the ball which left STOL-Grasshopper, especially in the 1st
half, with no solution. Also, too many rebounds were missed, which allowed
Probuild a second chance at scoring. Score at halftime: 21-25.
In the third quarter, STOL-Grasshoppers try to catch-up, with Corine Manuputty taking the lead (she scores 4 3-pointers and a
total of 17 points in this quarter). Unfortunately, Probuild also keeps scoring
and the last period starts at 43-44.
The supporters are still hoping for the best, but the last period is
clearly for the Lions. STOL-Grasshoppers try eveything,
but are unable to close the gap (56-64 with a minute to play). In the last
minute, Probuild scores 7 x from the free throw line to end the match at 56-71.
Reaction from coach Bo Melis: “This was the first match in years that we
played from a leading position, and that was obvious. It’s good that this happens
now, and we can now go on from here. It’s still early in the season and that
means we have enough time to improve. Of course, it’s always disappointing to
lose, especially in a home game.”
STOL-Grasshoppers are now in 3rd place in the competition – 2 points
behind Challenge Sports and Probuild – but with 1 less game played.
Topscorers: Corine Manuputty, 27 points and 8 rebounds; Rianne Philippo, 15
points and 8 rebounds.
The next game is on Thursday, Dec. 8, 20:00, when STOL-Grasshoppers
travel to Amsterdam to meet CTO.
