STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 deserve the win in Tubbergen

After skipping a weekend of play because of the uneven number of teams in the ladies First Division, the team from Katwijk travelled to Tubbergen and were able to return with a good feeling. The team gave everything they had, and this brought them the well-deserved win.

From the beginning, the ladies were concentrated, played fanatically, and kept on going. Even when things were not going well, they managed to keep the opponent under constant pressure.

The opening score is for Eurosped via the free throw line. Via a lay-up from Karin, a shot from the head of the bucket from Julia, and again a lay-up from Karin, STOL-Grasshoppers are able to put their first lead on the scoreboard. STOL-Grasshoppers play better in this opening phase and manage to keep a small lead. Eurosped fights back and makes it difficult for STOL to widen their lead. At the end of the first period, STOL is still in the lead by 20-16.

In the second period, there seems to be a cover on the ring, as both teams have trouble throwing the ball though it. Good for the number of rebounds, but not for the shot percentage. Corine and Rianne are the only ones able to find the net. Notible is that the fanaticism never deceases. The guards are kept under pressure and the rebounds are taken. With this commitment and pressure, STOL-Grasshoppers hold a 3 point lead at halftime (27-30).

After halftime, the team continues pressuring the opponent who try to set up their plays. It’s clear that the fanatical playing style is taking it’s toll. Eurosped make a lot of unnecessary fouls and STOL-Grasshoppers take a maximum lead of 17 points (51-37). The scores are spread over Corine, Karin, Ingrid, Rianne, and Randell and that does the team good. In the last two minutes the scoring stops, but the lead stays by STOL-Grasshoppers.

The fourth period starts at 42-53, and via two 3-pointers from Sonja the score stays at a 10 point difference for the first 4 minutes. The team is getting tired and it’s showing in this period. Seven of the thirteen turnovers are in this quarter. They manage to keep the remainder of the match under controle, and luckily the season is long enough to improve on their condition. In the 35th minute, it’s 51-66 and the match is as good as over. Rianne and Corine take the last scores, with a far-away      3-pointer from Rianne as the closing score – 60-76.
