STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 lose their first match of the new year

The first game of the year, against local rival Wereldtickets.nl in Leiderdorp, ended in a loss at 70-57. Both teams demonstrated that they were not in top form for the first match after the winter stop. The Grasshoppers’ scoring machine couldn’t be started, and the weak playing in the first and fourth period lost the game.

First period

Both teams had trouble getting started and the plays were sloppy. It’s Karin Kuijt who scores the first 4 points for STOL-Grasshoppers. Corine Manuputty shoots sharpley for Wereldtickets. STOL-Grasshoppers suffer unnecessary ball loss and let their opponent score too easily. The first period ends at 20-11.

Second period

STOL-Grasshoppers start playing better and via scores from Birgitte Neuteboom and Ingrid van der Plas, the team gets back in the game. With 3-pointers from Karin Kuijt, Anouk Breel, Charley Kranstauber, and Rianne Philippo, the scoreboard goes to 30-29 with a couple of minutes to go. In the last minutes, the scores are again given away too easily, and with scores by Nieuwveen and the strong playing Manuputty, the period ends at 38-31.

Third period

At the beginning of the third period, both teams score back and forth. Heather Stec from STOL-Grasshoppers and Bridget Yourger from Wereldtickets get more involved with the scoring. A score and bonus from Stec brings the score to 50-44. Then the team from Katwijk scores no more, and via sloppy ball loss they end the period at 55-44.

Fourth period

Heather Stec quickly receives her fourth personal foul. The shots are not falling for STOL-Grasshoppers, and Wereldtickets take a bigger lead. With the scoreboard at 68-51, Heather Stec gets her fifth personal foul. Julia Dijkman scores another 4 points, but the match finally ends at 70-57.

Heather Stec (21) and Karin Kuijt(11) managed to reach double figures.

A disappointing result for the team from Katwijk, who would have liked to have taken the points.

Saturday is a home game against Uball and the team will have to improve greatly to keep the points in Katwijk.
