STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 win from Celeritas-Donar

Last Saturday, Celeritas-Donar from Groningen came to visit in Cleijn Duin. After a difficult match, the home team of Bo Melis won their 4th competition match of the season.

The beginning is not good, and STOL-Grasshoppers are not demonstrating their “normal” offensive plays. Groningen tries to reach their center, de Roos, but she quickly earns her 3rd foul and is forced to the bench. After back and forth scoring, the 1st period ends with a 3-pointer by Ingrid at 13-10 for Grasshoppers. In the 2nd period, the scoring goes better for both teams, but the plays are sloppy. Good actions are exchanged with unnecessary ball loss, and at halftime Grasshoppers hold their 2 point lead at 37-35.

STOL-Grasshoppers improve their play in the 3rd quarter and their supporters show their appreciation via applause. They put the pressure on, and Groningen has no answer for the fast offensive plays of the Katwijk’s team. After 45-41 in the 4th minute, the score goes quickly to 57-45 (12-4 run). Groningen comes back to 60-50, and with a score of 67-55 halfway through the 4th quarter, it looks like STOL-Grasshoppers will take the points. Then Groningen scores 11 points in a row to come close by (67-66), but in the last minute Rianne shots in 2 3-pointers to finish the match at 76-68.

Period scores: 13-10, 24-25, 23-15, 16-18.

Next Saturday the STOL-Grasshoppers ladies have another home game against Challenge Sports/Binnenland in Cleijn Duin. The match starts at 20:15 and there is no entry charge.
