First away win for growing Grasshoppers
From an almost losing position, STOL-Grasshoppers
fought their way back against Batouwe for their first
away win of the season. In Bemmel, the team from
Katwijk won by 91-95 after a halftime score of 58-41.
Grasshoppers started weak in the match and saw 7
3-pointers scored against them in the first quarter. Also, Rianne Philippo and
Heather Stec were strongly defended. After trailing
by 31-20, Grasshoppers allowed Batouwe to take an
even bigger lead in the second quarter.
Only after 69-53 did Grasshoppers finally start
getting organized. With simple, but effective offensive plays, and thanks to 10
successful drives from Karin Kuijt, they ended the third quarter at 73-72. Then
Grasshoppers took a small lead for the first time in the match (85-86), but
lost it quickly. Via a last big effort, Grasshoppers made a 0-9 run to take the
win by a narrow 4 points.
A happy coach Bo Melis: “We won by the skin of our
teeth. We did it by working hard and believing in ourselves. Last season we
were losing matches like this, so you can clearly see that the team is making
progress.”
