STOL-Grasshoppers – HLB Accounts

After the introduction of the teams, there is 1 minute silence as tribute to our youth player, Robbin Schaddé van Dooren, who passed away recently in a tragic accident. DS1 wish his family, friends, and teammates much strength in this difficult time.

STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 loose in Den Helder

STOL-Grasshoppers were not able to continue their excellent performance of last week against CTO. HLB Accountants were too strong last Saturday evening and won by 86-62.

The start is not good, and after 2 air-balls, HLB take a lead of 9-0. Missy (8 points this quarter – 2 x 3-pointers) and Heather (6 points) lead the catch-up race. After 16-16, the period ends with HLB in the lead: 20-16.

In the 2nd period, HLB increase their lead (6-2 at the beginning of the period), then STOL-Grasshoppers, via Karin and Anouk, come back to 26-22. Until the 7th minute, the scoring continues equally, until it’s 31-28 for HLB. So, no panic, even though the team from Katwijk is not playing well. HLB is not playing very well either, but with much more determination. In the last 3 minutes, Den Helder increases their lead to 39-28 at halftime.

After the rest, STOL-Grasshoppers start well and within 2 minutes they’re 4 points closer. Then they weaken again and Den Helder shots in 13 points (pretty easily), while we score 4 points. Heather keeps playing well, and scores 8 points in this quarter. The period ends at 64-46.

The 4th period begins well with free throws from Eline, Missy, Julia, and scores from Missy and Julia. After 3 minutes, the difference is only 13 points (instead of the max. 21 points in the 3rd period). Then, the energy is gone (and the self confidence) from the Katwijk’s team. In the last 6 minutes, Heather scores 2 free throws, Missy scores, and Rianne makes her second 3-pointer, which allows HLB to finally end the match at 86-62.

Period scores: 20-16; 19-12; 25-18; 22-16.

Scores and rebounds: Heather Stec (22 points & 9 rebounds), Missy Mitidiero (18 points )

Reaction from coach Bo Melis after the match: “This was our worst performance of the season. For the first time, a very poor distribution of scoring, very few free throws, and too many unnecessary fouls from our side. This can happen, it happens to every team now and then, and now we have to prove that this was a mistake that does not define our team. Next Tuesday we play in the cup competition, and then we have to return to the manner of play that we exhibited in our previous matches.”

On Tuesday, November 9, the ladies from STOL-Grasshoppers have a cup match in Cleijn Duin. The opponent, Lekdetec from Bemmel, also plays in the First Division. The match starts at 21:00 and there is no admission charge.
