FIRST WIN FOR STOL-GRASSHOPPERS
STOL-Grasshoppers took their first win in the
new season. In Tubbergen, they won from
Twente by 60-76. Except for the first
two minutes, when Twente scored from the free throw line, the team from Katwijk
stayed in the lead for the entire match.
After the first quarter (16-20) and halftime (27-30) the difference
stayed at a minimum against the young Twente’s team, but in the third period
the team of coach Bo Melis widened their lead to 42-53.
“We played at a high tempo and defended
aggressively,” said a satisfied Melis.
Mostly because of the high pace, the Twente’s team was eventually no
longer able to keep up and their resistance was broken. “They have a young team with many youth
internationals. They have a lot of talent. We won because we are more experienced, but
also with our better condition and fanaticism.
Their coach was certainly not happy.
He thought they should have worked until they fell over. That is what we did.” Coach Melis was only dissatisfied with the
shot precentage. “That
can and must be much higher.”
