STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 loss from Challenge Sports Binnenland

The STOL-Grasshoppers ladies first division team suffered a disappointing loss in their home game against Challenge Sports Binnenland. After an explosive start by the team from Rotterdam, the Katwijk’s team was trying to catch up for the rest of the match. The 8th loss of the season is a fact.

STOL-Grasshoppers begin weak in the first period. They miss under the board and from far. In contrast, Rotterdam opens strong with two 3-pointers and a score from an offensive rebound. The guard and centers from Rotterdam keep shooting sharp in the next minutes. The score in the 4th minute is 4-16. The shots are not falling on the STOL-Grasshoppers side, and they are not taking any rebounds. In the last minutes, they manage to sharpen their defense, but fail to attempt inside plays though the outside shots are not successful. At the end of the first period: 10-23.

In the second period, the offensive and defensive plays are not working. The shot percentage is woefully low, no one is boxing-out, and there is no offensive rebounding. The game on the STOL-Grasshoppers is marred by ball loss, players who can’t be reached, and missed shots under the board. The shot percentage of the opponent is high, as they are given too much room. Score in the 7th minute: 17-41. In the last minute, the home team gives more pressure in their offense, which resuls in scores and free throws. Score at halftime: 27-48.

STOL-Grasshoppers open the third period with a 3-pointer, but Rotterdam retaliates with a score and bonus. The home team is playing sharper and faster which leads to scores via interceptions. The 3-pointers are also finding their mark now. Rotterdam continues to score from far, and via fast-breaks with bonus. The scoring stays pretty much equal in this period (28-30). The period ends at 55-78.

The fourth period begins with nice scores from MIssy Mitidiero and the sharp and strong playing Carola de Jong. The defence is still a step too late, which takes the Rotterdam players to the free thow line where they are also successful. STOL-Grasshoppers make their offensive plays in a high tempo. Their plays are more successful and their far away shots are finding the net. The scoring in this period is also pretty equal (32-33). Hochstetler and Mitidiero are given an honorary substitution before the match ends at 87-111.

Next week, the team plays an away game against Autocad Amazone in Utrecht.
