STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 play a strong match against HLB Accounts Den Helder

The ladies from STOL-Grasshoppers DS1 lost their uit game against competition leader Den Helder by 94-82. Even though they lost, the team from Katwijk played one of their best matches of the season. With great team play and self confidence, STOL-Grasshoppers were able to pretty much keep up with the first place team. Last year’s champions had to do their best to take the points.

The first minutes of the first period are for STOL-Grasshoppers. After 3 minutes they lead by 4-11! Den Helder has to give all to keep up with STOL and to end the period at 23-23.

Den Helder begins strong in the second period with an 11-0 run, but STOL-Grasshoppers don’t give up. After a ½ period, the score is 36-30. With a press by Den Helder and sloppy offensive plays by STOL (ball loss, fast shots, no rebounds), the score at halftime is 55-42.

STOL-Grasshoppers, led by Mitieiero, start strong in the third period to bring the score in the 6th minute to 61-59. Den Helder fights back to end this period at 72-62.

The first minutes in the 4th period are also for STOL-Grasshoppers. The score in the 4th minute is 76-72 and the teams are pretty much in balance. The strong physical play by the Den Helder centers bring STOL-Grasshoppers in foul problems. Den Helder slowly but surely widens their lead to end the match at 94-82.

Scores: Mitidiero 21 (4 threepointers), Philippo 15, Breel 15 (7 reb), Dijkman 9, vd Plas 6, de Jong 6, Kuijt 5, Kraayenoord 3, Kraustauber 2.

STOL-Grasshoppers recovered well from last week’s loss. Good team play, belief in themselves, and speed, demonstrated that the ladies can take on any opponent. In this match, it was the second period difference of 13 points that cost the win.

We are now looking forward with confidence to our home game next week against Eurosped Twente. This match will also be the debut of Meghan Hutchens, the new American player for STOL-Grasshoppers.
