Grasshoppers basketball club:
Grasshoppers go Dutch........
Grasshoppers is a well known basketball club in Holland, especially on our women's side. Our junior and
women's teams play in the 1st Division. In the women's competition, there are 10 teams throughout Holland.
As we have the smallest team in the league, our successes are due to hard work, enthusiasm, and teamwork of our players, coach, and supporters.
We have about 25 youth teams who are trained and coached by older members or parents who have played themselves.
All of our 1st girls' teams played in the national championships this season. We have reached the point that our
youth is starting to reach the highest level, which means that we will be starting the 2007-2008 with all Dutch players.
This season (2006-2007) our junior team (18-20 years) were 5th place in the national championships, the U18 team were
3rd, the U16 team were 4rd, the U12 team won silver, and the U14 team (playin next saturday...)
As women's basketball in Holland is still more or less on an amateur standing, most clubs exist on a very limited budget.
Our players all have jobs or are still in school. The training is done in the evening and most of the competition games
are on Saturday evening.
There are an increasing number of American girls coming over to play. Last season there were 1 or 2 American girls
playing for almost every club in the 1st Division. This is helping to bring our basketball competition to a higher level
and making it much more exciting. Even though you can't make a living from basketball here, there is the chance
that you will be scouted by another European country that does have professional teams. So you can think of us as
an introduction to European basketball.

you’ll always be able to fine a still spot, even on the
busiest of days. You can make endless walking or biking tours
in the direct area. In the nature area Berkheide, between Katwijk

A whole year of pure enjoyment:
At every time of the year, Katwijk has something extra. In
the spring it’s the colorful fields of flowers and in
the summer there’s always plenty to do at the beach.
Then there are also big events, such as the Rijnburg’s
flower parade. The modern, partially covered shopping area
behind the Boulevard is good for many hours of shopping pleasure.
From Katwijk there are various boat tours with the Triton over
the South Holland lakes. The fall and winter months offer invigorating
walks or jogging along the beach where you can enjoy the rest
and fresh air. |
A step into the past:
In Katwijk you will find houses, hotels, and resturants along
the Boulevard, along with monuments such as the White Church
(Witte Kerk) and the Lighthouse (Vuurbaak). You can get a good
picture of the Katwijk of the past at the Katwijk’s Museam. |
